Join our team and ride Barnsley to Amsterdam for a truly inspirational experience; you’ll make friends for life, raise money for a great cause, help save lives and make memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
Our Barnsley to Amsterdam Bike Ride is an awesome cycling challenge and is by far one of the best fundraising events in the UK, attracting hundreds of riders each year and raising hundreds of thousands for Prostate Cancer UK.
Last year 3 of us signed up for the ride, met a few other riders and decided to ride again, this year we have 15 riders; next year we are looking at a team of 25.
How much does it cost?
Pay a £175 non-refundable registration fee (£150 with the discount) and then pledge to raise a minimum of £1,000 in sponsorship (excluding Gift Aid), there are a number of ways we have been successful this year in raising money such as:
- Shirt Sponsors
- Bucket Shaking at grounds
- Foot golf
- Penalty shoot-out at a cup final
We also have other ideas planned for next year which should see our funds raise even further.
- Two nights’ accommodation
- All meals from Friday morning through to Sunday morning
- All travel including return Eurostar or flights depending on which route you do and coaches back to start point (this includes bike transfer)
- Fully signed route, with feed stations, mechanical and medical support
- Finishers Medal and orange F2A wristband
- Your own Men United cycle jersey
You will need to provide you own bike, helmet and Bell.
Will I be fit enough?
If you are active then you are fit enough, we have a couple of riders who only trained for two months for this ride and make it around with no problems, obviously the fitter you are the easier it will be for you, the ride is broken down into 20 mile stages where you stop from refreshments and lunch.
We’ll spend 2 days in the saddle, cycling 144 miles from Barnsley to Amsterdam arena.
Our journey begins at Barnsley FC’s Oakwell Stadium with the route taking us on a 72 mile journey on day 1 over to Hull Kingston Rovers, along the way we stop every 20 miles to refuel and rest up, once at Hull we get fed and watered (beer optional) whilst the Prostate Cancer staff let us know how much we have raised so far, then it’s onto the bus for the short trip over to the ferry for the overnight to Rotterdam. The ferry is a great time to meet the others riders, have a beer and lots of football banter.
Day 2 is another 72 miles but flat; absolutely flat, and with day 1 out of the way, the ferry behind us it’s a great way to spend the time in the saddle, miles upon miles of cycle tracks give a really relaxing ride, every 20 miles there are refuelling station with a cheeky couple of beers at lunch time.
When we arrive at Amsterdam Arena you are welcomed across the line with a prosecco and medal, after a few photos your bike is loaded back into the van and heads off back to the UK where it’s stored at Oakwell. it’s then onto the coach for a short trip to the hotels where we get changed, down for a meal and presentation, then off into Dam to celebrate your fantastic achievement.
As soon as the ride opens for registration the places will get snapped up fairly quickly, With a limited number of spaces available you don’t want miss out – register your interest below today by dropping us an email and we can then keep you informed.
